Here's How We Spent A Day in Mason City, Iowa

Mason City, Iowa, is a town full of architecture, art, and attractions. This town in the middle of America’s Heartland has some of the best things to do in the Midwest.

Architecture buffs will want to explore Mason City. Walking excursions of the Prairie School Architecture and a Historic Park Inn tour should be on their itinerary.

They feature a variety of single-origin coffees from all over the world—light roasts to dark.

8:15 a.m. Cabin Coffee

The complete tour features 28 buildings, each offering an extraordinary architectural detail.

9:00 a.m. Architectural Walking Tour

A 60-minute guided tour with 14 stops around the Historic Park Inn is a must-do for architecture fanatics.

11:30 a.m. Historic Park Inn Tour

Once in a while, you find something different on a menu, and here it was, the green bell pepper rings. Deliciously different!

12:15 p.m. Lunch At  The Blue Heron Bar & Grill

The simplicity of this single flower allowed me to see the details up close and truly appreciate them. He created this blown glass piece in 2000.

1:30 p.m. Charles H. MacNider Art Museum

We learned of another type of art, Meredith Willson’s music. You’ll want to spend a couple of hours at this stop, where they have a docent-led tour of the boyhood home.

3:00 p.m. The Music Man Square
